Batemill Cottage

Sleeping 4 to 5 people in 3 bedrooms (1 king size room, 1 single, and 2 bunk beds) this cottage would suit a family or a smaller group. More flexibility comes from the loft space, with a double futon an play space or office.

In summer, the cottage is perfect for active breaks, with a garden for relaxing after a long walk, a BBQ, and a utility / conservatory for those muddy boots and bikes. Just across the road the River Sett runs by – a magical sound to wake up to, and a perfect spot for sitting with a cup of tea or glass of wine.

In winter, the cottage is a haven of warm welcome, with a wonderful open fire in the main sitting room, and cosy rooms throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped, catering to cooks of all levels of aspiration.

Being here is ideal for walking, cycling, or even rock-climbing. With Kinder Scout, Lantern Pike, Eccles Pike and Chinley Churn as neighbours, there are so many astonishingly beautiful routes right from the front door, and countless more by car, train, bus or bike. The Peak Forest canal also runs through New Mills – perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, or you could even hire a narrow boat for the day.

There are many places to visit too, from the caverns of Castleton, to National Trust properties of historic fascination including the unmissable Quarry Bank and Lyme Park. Manchester is a 35-minute train journey away if city sightseeing takes your fancy, with the Bridgewater hall for concerts, theatres, restaurants, art galleries, shopping and more. We recommend many local pubs for a walk and a drink, a pub lunch with a view, or an evening with fine food.

New Mills has lots of beautiful spots:

The Sett Valley trail is one route into town (great for cycling, even for little legs!), and the locally well-known Torrs and Millenium walkway taking you across the spectacular fast-flowing River Goytbelow.

High Lea Park is great if you have little ones.

Other amenities in New Mills include a number of great pubs (our favourite the Torr Vale Tap just by the Millenium walkway); local shopping (butchers, The Cheese Wheel, a market on Fridays and Saturdays); cafes for coffee, cake and hot chocolate (On the Bridge and Belle bakery are favourites) and a very useful Sainsbury’s local or Co Op.

A number of eateries are included below, and Go Eat / Just Eat etc have lots of delivery options across all cuisines (our favourite is the Sri Lankan, which we were not expecting to be so good!).

This is our home-from-home and, as such, we are pleased to provide you with all the basics in the kitchen, and happy to let you use some dried spices or a tin or two if you run out! We pride ourselves on making it easy for you to relax and enjoy your holiday, so a large dishwasher and washer/dryer are available, as well as coffee machine, air fryer and all the mod cons you would expect.

We welcome well-behaved dogs, and the garden is secure for your use. Our children have left a wide range of games to share. Wi fi is included, of course, with TV and speakers for guests to login to amazon, iplayer or whatever you need. Finally, there are maps of the area and, as well as local leaflets for walking, a selection of books and guides.
